A temporary roof is the right call whenever a building needs to stay dry while the roof is open or being worked on. The most common reasons our customers need one:

How Our Temporary Roofing Systems Work
We start with a free site survey to measure the structure and agree the safest access and cover. Our team then erects a scaffold framework and fits a pitched temporary roof over it, using interlocking sheeting that channels rainwater clear of the building. The cover is fully sealed and secured to stay put in high winds.
Once your roof work is finished, we dismantle and remove everything, leaving the site clean and tidy. Throughout, the system is built to TG20 and SG4 standards and inspected regularly to keep everyone on site safe.
Types of Temporary Roof We Install
Full temporary roof cover
A complete weatherproof roof over the whole structure, used when the existing roof is coming off entirely. This is the standard choice for a full re-roof or a major restoration, and it lets the trades work underneath in any weather.
Partial and sectional roof protection
A cover over one section of the roof rather than all of it, for localised repairs, a single slope, or work that moves across the building in stages. Less scaffold, lower cost, same protection where it is needed.
Loft conversion and dormer covers
Loft conversions open the roof for weeks at a time, often with new joists, insulation and plasterwork exposed. A temporary roof keeps all of it dry so the conversion runs to programme instead of to the forecast.
Listed and period building covers
Historic fabric does not tolerate getting wet, and the repair work is slow by nature. We design covers for listed and period properties that shelter the building for as long as the work takes, with the access the conservation team needs.
What Affects the Cost of a Temporary Roof
There is no single price for a temporary roof, because the cover is built around the building. What we quote depends on a handful of things, and it is worth understanding them before you compare quotes.
- The span. The distance the roof has to cross without support is the biggest single factor. A terraced house is a different job from a church nave.
- The height and the access. A two storey semi with a clear driveway costs less to reach than a town centre building with no side access and a pavement to protect.
- How long it stays up. Hire runs for as long as the project needs. A three week re-roof and a six month restoration are priced differently.
- The shape of the roof. Multiple pitches, dormers, valleys and chimneys all add complexity to the design and the build.
- What else the scaffold has to do. Most temporary roofs sit on a working scaffold that the trades also use, so edge protection, loading bays and staircase access all form part of the same quote.

As long as your project needs. Temporary roofs are designed for jobs lasting anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months, and we inspect them regularly while they’re up to make sure they stay secure.
Will it keep working in bad weather?
Yes ‐ that’s the whole point. Our temporary roofing systems are sealed and wind-rated to keep rain, snow and wind out, so your project can carry on when an open roof would otherwise stop work.

The temporary roof sits on a scaffold framework, so the scaffold comes as part of the system. In most cases the same scaffold also gives your trades their working platform, edge protection and access, which is quoted as one job rather than two.

Every temporary roof we put up is designed for the building it is going on. Our specialist scaffolding team measures the structure, works out the span and the pitch, and plans the access before anything arrives on site, with scaffold drawings and calculations where the design needs them. No two roofs are the same, so no two of our covers are either.
We install and dismantle the system ourselves rather than subcontracting it. That matters when a cover has to come off in stages as roof work progresses, or when the programme moves and the scaffold has to move with it. It also means one point of contact for the whole job.
A well-designed temporary roof pays for itself in materials that do not get wet and days that do not get lost. Timber, insulation and plasterwork all suffer once water reaches them, and a delay waiting for the weather costs more than the cover did.
